Veteran Sportswriter Elected To CHSCA Hall Of Fame
The Connecticut High School Coaches Association has announced the 2023 CHSCA Hall of Fame inductees, and the honorees include a veteran sportswriter who has provided thorough coverage of high school, college and professional sports for more than three decades.
Vickie Fulkerson, scholastic sports editor for the New London Day, was selected for her outstanding contributions in media.
The other Hall of Fame inductees will be Morgan girls volleyball and girls basketball coach Joe Grippo, Glastonbury swimming coach Suzanne Hoyt, Fitch cross country and track and field coach Richard Kosta, E.O. Smith boys basketball coach Ron Pires, Danbury High cross country and track and field coach Robert Murray, the late George Babcock, a long-time softball coach at Wolcott High, Pete Tucci, a veteran baseball and football coach at Norwalk High, Windham High wrestling coach Patrick Risley and James Riccitelli, a three-sport (hockey, football, softball) coach at three schools (Wilbur Cross, North Haven and Cheshire).
These 10 will be honored at the 45th annual induction ceremony and dinner on Thursday, May 11, at 6:30 p.m. “This Hall of Fame class is a legendary group of individuals that have contributed to education-based athletics throughout our state,” said Babby Nuhn, chair of the CHSCA Hall of Fame
Fulkerson is a seven-time first-place winner of the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists writing award and was inducted into both the Connecticut Scholastic and Collegiate Softball Hall of Fame and Connecticut Girls Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame. A native of Niantic and graduate of Stonington High School and Boston University, she also serves as a member of the Connecticut Sports Media Alliance and as Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame program biographer.
