Six individuals to receive Good Sport Awards for promoting athletics
Six individuals who have unselfishly devoted their time and energy to the promotion of athletics in their communities have been named recipients of the John Wentworth Good Sport Award by the Connecticut Sports Writers' Alliance. Ed DiPersio of Meriden, Dave Farr of Windsor Locks, Maryellen Holden of Forestville, Don "Grog" Lombardo of Middletown, Mike Madera of West Haven and Paul Majeski of New Britain and Waterford are the 2018 honorees. Shea, Daniels named Bob Casey Courage Award winners by Connecticut Sports Writers' Alliance
Katie Shea of RHAM High School in Hebron and Steve Daniels of Southington have been named co-recipients of the Bob Casey Courage Award by the Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance. Shea, a senior volleyball player at RHAM and a resident of Amston, was diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis, an autoimmune disorder affecting the brain. She would at times be hospitalized for several weeks and suffer frightening bouts of confusion early in her junior year, which kept her from both

Abramson, Lockwood named High School Athletes of the Year by Connecticut Sports Writers' Allianc
Softball standout Abby Abramson of Cheshire and football star Spencer Lockwood of Killingly have been named recipients of the Hal Levy High School Athlete of the Year Award for 2017 by the Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance. Abramson led the Rams to the Class LL softball semifinals, pitching her way to a 23-2 record with a 0.96 earned run average and 309 strikeouts in 159 innings. Legendary Yale football coach Carm Cozza dies at the age of 87
NEW HAVEN, January 4 -- Carmen Cozza, who served as head football coach at Yale University for three decades, died on Thursday morning at the age of 87. Cozza, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, led Yale to 10 Ivy League championships and compiled a career record of 179-119-5 (.599) in 303 games, winning the most games in league history. Misto, Brameier Named High School Coaches of the Year by Connecticut Sports Writers' Alliance
Girls basketball coach Holly Misto of New London and boys lacrosse coach Jeff Brameier of Darien have been named recipients of the Doc McInerney High School Coach of the Year Award by the Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance. Misto led the Whalers to a 26-2 record and the Class LL championship in 2016-17, defeating top-ranked Trumbull 42-36 for the title March 18 at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
