RHAM's Ryan Fraleigh awarded Bo Kolinsky Scholarship

Ryan Fraleigh, a senior at RHAM High School in Hebron, has been selected to receive the 2018 Bohdan Kolinsky Memorial Sports Journalism Scholarship from the Connecticut Sports Writers Alliance.

The scholarship honors the memory of Bohdan Kolinsky, longtime school sports editor of the Hartford Courant, who died in 2003. The scholarship provides a one-time award of $2,500 to a high school senior from Connecticut, who is admitted to an accredited four-year college for study leading to a career in sports journalism.

Ryan has played soccer and basketball for all four years at RHAM, serving as captain of the basketball team this winter. Ryan earned All-Academic honors in both sports in both his junior and senior year. He has volunteered with Special Olympics in both basketball and softball throughout high school and also served as an Adaptive Physical Education mentor at RHAM.

Ryan’s path toward a journalism career began his sophomore year in the broadcast journalism program at RHAM. For the next two years, he was part of a team that produced a live daily news show which was broadcast to the entire school. As part of this team, he held various roles, including writer, anchor and producer.

This past year, Ryan expanded his studies to include print journalism, including responsibility for the production of the Rhambler, a monthly magazine for RHAM students and faculty.

Ryan will continue his journalism career this fall at Ithaca College with a major in Documentary Studies and Production.
