Alliance member to be inducted into Hall of Fame for scholastic coverage

Vickie Fulkerson, the Scholastic Sports Editor at The Day of New London, will be inducted in the Connecticut Girls Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame as a member of the media.

Fulkerson, a member of the Connecticut Sports’ Writers Alliance, will be honored at the CGSCA’s All-State banquet on Sunday, January 19 at the Aqua Turf in Southington beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Fulkerson graduated from Stonington High in 1986 and from Boston College in 1990 with a degree in journalism.

She was hired by The Day in 1990 and has been covering high school sports since that date. She was promoted to Scholastic Sports Editor in April 2001. She has also covered the Coast Guard football team, the Norwich Navigators minor league baseball team and the UConn women’s basketball team. She has covered the team at nine Final Fours.

Fulkerson, who lives in Niantic, was inducted into the Connecticut Scholastic and Collegiate Softball Hall of Fame in 2000 as an honorary member.
