Audrey Hasuberger selected to receive Bo Kolinsky Memorial Scholarship

Audrey Hausberger, a senior at East Lyme High School, has been selected to receive the 2019 Bohdan Kolinsky Memorial Sports Journalism Scholarship from the Connecticut Sports Writers Alliance.

The scholarship honors the memory of Bohdan Kolinsky, longtime school sports editor of the Hartford Courant, who died in 2003. The scholarship provides a one-time award of $2,500 to a high school senior from Connecticut, who is admitted to an accredited four-year college for study leading to a career in sports journalism.

Hausberger is the sports editor of the school newspaper at East Lyme High School, The Viking Saga. In her two years with the paper, she has written for all four sections (Entertainment, News, Sports and Features).

Jeff Beale, a journalism teacher at East Lyme High, describes Hausberger as the ultimate team player. He said, “She has volunteered to write extra stories, take pictures, get interviews, get quotes and countless other behind-the-scenes responsibilities necessary to publish.”

Hausberger, an honor roll student, aspires to a career as an on-camera sports journalist or as a writer for a sports magazine. She is the daughter of Angela and Martin Hausberger. Hausberger will study at Indiana University in Bloomington.
